  1. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

  2. I am sorry for your loss Rob. While laying your dad to rest is probably one of the saddest things you will ever have to do, take comfort in knowing he lived a long and blessed life. I only knew him from church and a few school activities, but I could tell he was really proud of you.

When I look back, it always amazes me how our dads worked full time, took care of the house and yet still managed to drag our carcasses to church every Sunday. It would have been easier for them to sleep in, or go to brunch, or watch sports all day, but they wanted to instill the value of faith into their kids and they got us there. They also paid tuition for parochial school when they could have used that money for a bigger car or nicer vacation. They made these sacrifices look easy and never asked for our gratitude.

The gift of faith. That is just one of your dad’s legacies to you.

  3. Rob,

Believe it or not, my mom just called me (Friday) to let me know about your dad…then I opened my last blog post from you and saw this! I’m so sorry for your loss! Your dad was a good man–often intimidated us as we ‘hung out’ at your house (just like mine did), but a great guy. I hope to make it either tonight or tomorrow, but just know that I’m praying for you and your family.

“Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.” (1 Thess. 4:13-14)
