The Feast of the Annunciation

annunciation

Humble, young maiden, favored of God, you are to be the new Eve, the Mother of us all. Will you accept this? Do you know what it will mean?

Scandal, ostracism, pain.

And a sword will pierce your heart. Are you willing?

“Be it done unto me as you say.”

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Today is also the Feast of St. Dismas, “the Good Thief,” which makes this my feast day too dismasbecause he is my patron saint. I took the name of Dismas for my oblate name. Of all the saints in Heaven, he is the one I most relate to. We are friends. He understands me. Today also happens to be the anniversary of my baptism, my true birthday.

Dear Dismas, pray for me that I will always have the same humility and courage you did to accept my fate, turn my back on despair, and entreat God for mercy.

Amen.

  1. UPDATE: FOB Jack correctly points out that, due to Holy Week, the Feast of the Annunciation was moved to April 8th this year. It’s still Dismas’ and my feast though if anyone wants to send a shout-out to God on my behalf.

    Thanks!
