A True American Hero
Neil Armstrong, R.I.P.
A statement from the Armstrong family:
We are heartbroken to share the news that Neil Armstrong has passed away following complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures. Neil was our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Neil Armstrong was also a reluctant American hero who always believed he was just doing his job. He served his Nation proudly, as a navy fighter pilot, test pilot, and astronaut. He also found success back home in his native Ohio in business and academia, and became a community leader in Cincinnati. He remained an advocate of aviation and exploration throughout his life and never lost his boyhood wonder of these pursuits.
As much as Neil cherished his privacy, he always appreciated the expressions of good will from people around the world and from all walks of life. While we mourn the loss of a very good man, we also celebrate his remarkable life and hope that it serves as an example to young people around the world to work hard to make their dreams come true, to be willing to explore and push the limits, and to selflessly serve a cause greater than themselves.
For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink.

A diplomatic row between Belarus and Sweden over teddy bears escalated today when the eastern European country withdrew its embassy staff from Stockholm.
Belarus also told Sweden to take similar action with its diplomats in Minsk.
It all stems from a stunt by a Swedish PR which parachuted 800 teddy bears into Belarus last month.
The company chartered a light aircraft which invaded Belarussian airspace to drop the bears, all of which highlighted the lack of human rights in the former Soviet state.
A furious Belarus president, Alexander Lukashenko, has sacked senior members of his staff over the incident and is now taking his fury out on Sweden.
Belarus expelled Sweden’s ambassador on August 3. The Belarussian ambassador to Stockholm was also withdrawn.
The foreign ministry said Minsk was now pulling out its remaining embassy staff because Sweden had aggravated the situation by expelling two more diplomats and had refused to allow a new Belarussian ambassador to take up his post.
‘In this connection, the Belarussian side has been forced to take the decision to withdraw its embassy in Sweden and bring back all its (embassy) staff to Belarus,’ the statement said.

As a refugee from the corporate world, I have had to learn to speak and write English all over again. I have the double handicap of having spent over a decade working in information technology. IT greatly accelerates the decline of literacy because of the field’s over-reliance on acronyms to describe just about everything. Technology isn’t real until there’s an acronym for it. Even jokes are spoken in acronym. PFM and RTFM are two old chestnuts I have uttered more times than I care to remember.

419 Fun
Is there anyone alive who hasn’t gotten one of these 419 emails yet? I didn’t think so. Just like bad sci-fi movies, they are enjoyable on so many levels: preposterous premise, bad sentence construction, bad use of tenses, hilarious Engrish, and downright cheekiness. Sadly, there are enough stupid and/or greedy people in this world to encourage these felons. Although, after you read a few of their emails, you’ve gotta wonder just how stupid and greedy you’d have to be to fall for ’em. On second thought, best not to think about it too much, it’s too depressing.
