Don’t Read This!

mousewindowYour iPhone is ruining your brain.

Researchers are worried that our reading and comprehension skills are being diminished by our many digital pursuits. Based on my own experience, I’d have to agree with them.

Full disclosure. I have an iPhone (I have been fully assimilated into the Borg). I have a Kindle. Although I do not own one, I have used iPads and Surfaces. I stare a computer all day.

I don’t know what I’d do without them.

UPDATE below the fold…

William Clay Ford, R.I.P.

last-surviving-grandchild-of-henry-ford-dies-at-88-medium_10William C. Ford, grandson of Henry, father of Bill Jr., former CEO of Ford Motor Company and long-time owner of the Detroit Lions passed away at home in Grosse Pointe Shores at 89 years of age.

The biggest thing that I have always bragged on Mr. Ford about is that he treated everyone the same. It didn’t matter if you where another hugely successful person in the auto industry or if you were driving him somewhere or working in his yard or doing anything for him, waiting on him at a restaurant. He treated everybody the same. He was as humble as you could possibly be for a man as successful as he was.

~former Lions defensive lineman Doug English

Bon Voyage Mr. Ford!

Spiritual Selfie

selfieHere we are at the first Friday of Lent, and the conversation around the holy water font is usually something like this:

“So, what are you giving up for Lent?”

“Cookies and pastry, you?”

“Bowling. Although this year, my league’s raising it’s fees, so I might actually save some money!”

“You don’t say? Well, I’ve been trying to lose some weight anyway so win-win eh? See you at the fish-fry!”

Does anyone see something wrong here?

Happy Birthday Chicago!

Incorporated on March 4, 1837, Chicago is just a kid compared to Detroit. Still, making it to 177 years old is pretty good.

Here’s the late, great Freddie King!

A Pre-Lenten Reflection

For us in the West, Ash Wednesday (this Wednesday as a matter of fact) begins the season of Lent. But today, I’d like to share with you a lovely reflection from one of our brothers in the East. Dear old, crotchety, Fr. Tom Hopko…I love this guy:

It’s ~16 minutes long. Take part of your lunch hour and listen.

O Man, Thy Name is Wuss

clintGot a minute? Take a little test:

1. Can you change a tire?

2. Can you sew?

3. Can you unclog a drain?

4. Can you cook?

5. Can you make fire?

6. Can you disassemble major household appliances AND successfully put them back together WITH extra parts left over (this is known as improving the design)?

7. Can you find your way without asking for help?

8. Are you going a little thin up top?

9. Do you need to shave every day?

If you answered yes to all these questions, you might be a man. There is one more diagnostic test that may be needed to determine that fact with certainty.

However, if this describes you in any way, don’t bother!
