Tourney Update

So how’s your bracket doing? Congratulations to the LaSalle Explorers and the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast U on making the Sweet 16 and busting up my bracket. My Spartans go up against the hated Dukies on Friday.

Here’s a little tribute to my Alma Mater in keeping with the season, the MSU Accafellas with their rendition of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.

I’m told it’s the fault of the Greenland Block, an enormous area of high pressure which forces all the normal west-to-east weather patterns south.

The practical upshot being, that we get a regular dose of arctic, Canadian air which is perfect for constant waves of snow and cold. I’m sure those of you who live in Michigan and the Northeast are sick and tired of it by now.

Well, blame Canada. Or Greenland. Or better yet, the Danes, since they still control Greenland. Anyway, welcome to Spring!

Beware the Ides of March

Arithmetic

arithmeticWhen I was a boy in school, I used to love arithmetic. It gave such a sense of satisfaction when you found the correct solution to a problem. Ya know? I still feel that way. Let’s try some simple equations together:

75 – 52 = 23

See? That was easy. Let’s do a harder one:

75 / 52 = 1.44

That means that 75 is 44% MORE than 52. Why, that’s almost half again as much! Neat huh?
